We finally got some decent weather here in Washington, so Alan and I headed up to Steven's Pass for a short snowshoe trip. The inversion layer kept the lowlands in fog and temps in the 30's, but up above 4500', it was 15-20 degrees warmer and sunny. The warm, moist air this past week made for some very interesting hoar frost, so there are more than the usual close up shots here. It was a great day to be in the mountains, especially compared to all the lowland fog we've had.

The first of many hoar frost shots - really amazing stuff. Hoar frost (radiation frost) is the tiny solid deposition of water vapor from saturated air which occurs when the temperature of the surface is below the freezing point.
