Wanting to do another close in training trek, Alan and I chose Mt. Persis. The trailhead for this peak is just past the town of Gold Bar along highway 2. Due to the currently high spring avalanche danger, this was an excellent choice as the route follows a ridge line pretty much all the way to the top. The climbers trail starts up steeply right from the start, making it's way through initially dense forest, then it opens up into an old burn area.
Looking back down into the valley we came, there is much active logging going on right now.
After a quick self portrait 1/2 way up, we donned our snow shoes and continued.
Our first view of the peak itself, complete with nice cornices ready to drop.
First view of Rainier, Alan was very excited. Our Rainier climb is only 7 weeks away.
On the summit at 5464', very aware of the overhanging cornices.
A bit hazy, but below is the town of Index with Glacier Peak in the distance (upper left) and Mt. Baring close in (upper right).

3.4 miles round trip, 2664 vertical feet, 3.5 hours hiking time.
Started hiking at 9am, summited at 11:30. Left the summit at 12:30, back to the truck at 1:30pm.
